Boy Scout Troop 2 Working at Hunter Tree Farm

I think I'm suffering from a little too much exposure to the elements Hunters tree farm yesterday.  Need to find an aspirin :)

My son Aaron and I are working 9-5 for the next 3 Sundays for Troop 2 fundraising.  We're shaking and wrapping trees with the troop.  It's a good workout.  It's the Troop's main fundraiser for the year.

If you need a Chirstmas tree, please stop out at Hunter Tree Farm and support the Troop.

To Whom It May Concern,

The community of Olympia and many across the nation and world now are working tirelessly to help find missing teen Maddy Harris. We have been blasting her pictures, info and story all over Facebook and the internet. We have posters up all over our community and the world. Several local businesses have stepped up and printed out hundreds of posters and made them available free to any who want to put them up. KAOS 89.3 is making PSA's about her. We have started a petition appealing to the media to please join in our search. She has been missing since May 7, 2011. Myself and countless others have spent hours upon hours and logged many miles walking and driving to put up posters and look for Maddy.

Her father's birthday was yesterday (May 25) and he is devastated. Her whole family is heart broken and are personally following up on leads. I am writing on behalf of Maddy, her family and thousands of your viewers/readers/listeners. Please hear our heartfelt plea. Please run a story about Maddy. If you are bound by policies regarding reporting on runaways then we ask that you try the story from a different angle. Perhaps a human interest piece about how our community has united and is making use of the internet and social networking sites. Anything you can do to get her pictures and story out there.

Ask that if someone is keeping her from contacting her family and friends that they allow her to do so… or better yet, to come home. Ask that if she is staying away and not contacting them by her own choice that she just contact someone and just let them know she's ok. From the moment she walked out her door, anything could have happened to her.  I am saddened by the seeming apathy and dismissive attitude towards runaways. If there is anything that can be done, any way that a story can be aired I beg you to please do something!

Please Help Us Find Maddy Harris

[Update: Maddy Harris was FOUND on June 9.  THANK YOU to everyone who helped bring her home!]

I'm posting this to all of my websites.  I hope it will help with our search.

Madeline Harris is a sophomore at Capital High School in Olympia, Washington.  On Saturday, May 7, she ran away from home, and has been missing since.  Although I don't personally have all the details, I understand that she was being bullied, both offline and online on Facebook, and that at least one of the people who was bullying her is also missing.

Maddy is one of my daughter's friends.  My daughter saw her last Friday and said that there was no indication anything unusual was happening.  We are all deeply concerned about Maddy's safety.  It is absolutely critical that we spread the word, particularly south into California, as apparently there may be some hints that she might have headed (or have been taken) to Southern California.

Please feel free to download a copy of the missing person flyer and spread it around online or print copies.  Also, I will be happy to print a few copies for anyone willing to stop by my office.

Thank you for your help!

Looking for Sponsors for Boy Scout Troop Website

I'm building a new website for my son's Boy Scout Troop.  I have the framework up so I can demo it for the troop.  If you'd like to see it, I have it set up at http://troop2olympia.spruz.com

This will be a social network-style site, so the kids and parents will be able to log in, create profiles, have discussion groups, share photos, etc.  It will really help the troop organize events, do community service work and coordinate.  I think it will also be a great way for former scouts to stay in touch with their troop.

I would like to make this site free for the troop so it will be a "no-brainer" when I present it to the troop leadership committee.  The cost to host the site at the level we need for two years is approximately $162, or about $6.75 a month.

As far as I can tell, it's OK to have corporate sponsors and acknowledge them on a sponsors page.

Are there any local businesses out there that want to chip in toward the cost of the site?  In exchange, I will make a sponsor page where each sponsor will have a business card-sized ad with a link to their own website.  Your ad will stay on the site for the entire 2 year period which you are a sponsor.

I would like to find 6 sponsors.  If you divide that up, that means you will be getting a 2 year sponsorship ad that backlinks to your website for just $27!

Actually, make that 5 sponsors, because I'm going to buy one for my business :)

Interested?  Let me know.
