‘To use the “java” command-line tool’ Message Under El Capitan: Here’s How You Fix It

Java error message under El CapitanMac OS X 10.11 “El Capitan” has been a great upgrade for my late 2009 27″ iMac. Not sure if it was due to disk cleanup that the pre-install utility ran or improvements to the Finder and Spotlight, but my computer is running much faster and more smoothly since the update. With 20Gb of RAM and the Quad i7 processor, even with this computer being 6 years old, I find the speed quite acceptable for web design, photo editing in Photoshop, and the 20+ browser tabs I have open at any given time as a web designer and social media manager.

However, one annoying bug that cropped up after installation is this pesky message, complaining about the java command line tool. It pops up at seemingly random intervals on my computer, more often when I am in a web browser. I did check, and Chrome no longer supports the standard java install, so the message seems to be coming at the system level. I do have java installed on my computer because there are apps that I need to run that require it.
