Angel’s Thai Is My New Best Friend :)

Thanks to http://Restaurant.com‘s coupon program for introducing me and my family to this great Thai restaurant.

I went here for the first time late last fall and thought the food was good, but not exceptional.  We went during peak dinner hours and it was marginally busy.

What a difference a few months makes! Tonight it was packed and we had to wait a few minutes for a table.

Angel's Thai, Downtown OlympiaI was introduced to Thai food in graduate school by my wife (GF at the time).  I’ve grown quite fond of it because I enjoy the fusion of Asian-style food with Indian-type spices.  There have only been a couple of Thai restaurants that have had truly memorable cuisine to me — and after tonight this is one of them.  I don’t know what changed since last fall, but the food was absolutely excellent.  We ordered our dishes with 3-star heat and it was perfect — warm and spicy without being overpowering.

My wife and I had Tom Kai Gai, Cashew Chicken and Kew Mai Beef.  Everything was just fantastic.  The portions were larger than I remembered from the last time, and none of the dishes were over $12 (before the coupon).

Even my son, who is a notoriously picky eater, thoroughly enjoyed the noodle soup we got for him.  I tasted it and it was loaded with chicken, served in a similar style to Vietnamese Pho, but the broth was much tastier.

The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is that our waitress was rushed and seemed a little impatient with us, and it also took about 1/2 hour for our food to arrive after we ordered.  However, they were absolutely slammed and only had 3 waitresses working.  The quality of the food easily made up for the wait.

I will be going back soon 😀
